In 2053, researchers finally discovered the long-theorized Planet 9. Sporting a near-habitable atmosphere and a nitrogen-rich crust perfectly suited to nurturing plant life, Planet 9 was a promising candidate for human settlement among the stars.
A few short decades later, XNep BioSystems established Verden, a terraforming research colony on the surface of Planet 9. The residents of Verden planted thousands of flora varieties from Earth, which rapidly took hold and spread across the nearby planet surface. Verden was a colossal leap forward for outer space research. Experiments and observation continued for generations, yielding novel pharmaceuticals, advanced bioengineered materials, and rich metal and mineral resources.
100 years later and with no explanation, XNep transport ships packed with mercenaries have started arriving on Planet 9 in droves. These mercenaries have orders to extract corporate assets from the planet - but it’s not entirely clear why, or whether Verden’s colonists are included in this extraction plan.
Surviving Planet 9’s long, dark, frigid nights will become impossible without XNep technology. There’s no option left but to fight.
